Overview

Designing Beyond the AI Hype

Design Hive 2026 was a curated design conference exploring Post-Hype AI and how artificial intelligence is actually changing the way designers think, create, and build.

Starting from scratch, we designed the complete event experience—from the brand identity and visual language to digital communication, interactive experiences, workshops, event collateral, and on-ground execution.

The experience brought together designers, founders, technologists, and product thinkers through talks, workshops, and conversations designed to move beyond the AI buzz and encourage meaningful discussion.

The Business Direction

DesignHive was never just an event. It was a platform for connection.

By late 2025, the design community had been flooded with AI announcements, new tools, and constantly changing workflows. The conversation was everywhere but meaningful conversations about how AI was actually changing everyday design practice were harder to find.

Design Hive was created to bridge that gap. Instead of another polished conference where people simply listened to talks, the goal was to create a space where designers, founders, technologists, and product thinkers could slow down, compare experiences, and think together.

The event also became a way for Apptware to build stronger relationships with the wider design community through meaningful conversations rather than traditional promotion.

Why Design Hive?

Moving from AI hype to honest conversations.

AI was everywhere. But the real question was: what is it actually changing for designers? Design Hive explored Post-Hype AI creating space to question, experiment, and share perspectives on where AI helps and where human judgment still matters.

The Challenge

We wanted to strike the right balance curated but not corporate, structured but not restrictive, and tech-focused while still feeling human. The goal was to create an experience that encouraged people to think, participate, and connect, rather than simply sit back and listen.

Key choices and the thinking behind them

Ideation

From an idea to an identity.

We started with the idea of a hive a space where people, ideas, and creativity come together. This became the foundation for the Design Hive logo and visual identity.

The logo combines hive-inspired forms with design DNA, representing the connection between creativity, logic, and collaboration.

Design Hive = Community + Framework + Experience

We finalised the logo, colour palette, and typography, creating a bold and consistent identity that carried the Design Hive concept across every event touchpoint.

A warm, energetic color palette paired with bold, contemporary typography creates a visual identity that feels expressive, confident, and approachable. Vibrant tones bring energy and community, while strong type hierarchy adds clarity, structure, and personality across every touchpoint.

Design

Turning the identity into something people could experience.

With the visual system in place, I extended the identity across the event from Card deck for goodies to T-shirts, stickers, visiting cards, tote bag, and event collateral.

The Highlight - 52 Cards of Design I was solely responsible for designing the complete 52-card design deck—from the concept and visual design to the individual card layouts. Inspired by a traditional playing-card deck, each card featured a design principle, UX rule, or design insight, turning a familiar format into an interactive learning experience. 52 cards. 52 design ideas. One playful way to learn.

Outcome
